Meet the Team: Alex Mackwood, Account Director
Our ‘Meet the Team’ series takes an inside look into the lives of our student marketing experts. From their career journey so far, to their go-to student meal, get to know Raptor HQ!
How long have you worked at Raptor?:
Nearly 5 years!
What is your career story so far?:
Just before leaving Newcastle Uni, Raptor was set up by our very own David Burgman and Jonny Edwards.
At the time I was currently managing student club nights in the Toon Jonny (Founder of the events company StageOne and Creative Director of Raptor) got me down to London for an interview which luckily turned out to be successful and I joined as Raptor’s first employee.
So, as I was finishing my finals, I got my role with Raptor… And that will be 5 years ago this summer.
Other than that I had been editor of the online student paper, The Tab Newcastle.
What is your role and what you responsible for?:
Account Director: Usually (pre-Covid), I’m busy delivering campaigns for clients such as Deliveroo, Tinder, Budweiser and SoundCloud. Since the outbreak I’ve been managing the developments of our new digital arm to the company, The Digital Welcome. The Digital Welcome has been our response to helping Unions across the UK and Ireland offer students an official welcome to University life to their students. We host livestreams, distribute student deals and promote University Careers services.
What is the best part of your role?:
No two days are the same. We are constantly moving and adapting to the world we live in. Over the past 5 years I’ve had the chance to work world leading brands, offering our student market expertise.
What is your dream brand to work with?:
Jack Daniels: Always thought we could come up with an exciting event series with the brand. Something the students would get really excited about. Always love working with amazing strong and long-standing brands such as JD.
What is your wildest moment from your days as a student?:
Most student antics should never be published, but one memory that sticks out is when I ran a Halloween party, and we hired a few 6ft pythons party with. Lol.
What was your go-to student meal?:
For a treat – Modern Indian street food, Dadbbawal, Jesmond Newcastle.
But most probably home cooked pasta bakes and curries.
What series are you currently binging on?:
A few great things on at the moment, a few highlights: It’s a Sin, Call my agent and Man in the high castle.
What is your secret talent?:
Boardgames have been taken up again at my place. Currently unbeatable at the dice game Yahtzee and word game Scattergories!
