What actually is the Raptor Academy? A deep dive into our social initiative

After the success of 2021, it’s almost time for us to relaunch the Raptor Ambassador Academy for a second year! If you’re an avid follower of all things Raptor and student marketing, you may have caught wind of our Ambassador Academy on our socials (we love to shout about how great it is), but may be wondering exactly what the programme is and how it could benefit you. Well, to answer all your questions, we caught up with our Business Development Executive, Amy, for some insight into her Academy journey.

What did you do at university and how did you first get involved with Raptor and the Academy?

I studied French and Business Management at the University of Manchester. I got back from study abroad and went into my final year of uni in the very height of Covid, so part-time jobs were few and far between. I saw a post about working as a brand ambassador for HelloFresh and just thought why not?

What did the Ambassador Academy workshops entail?

The programme was broken down into three different workshops each related to a different area of agency marketing: New Business, Digital Marketing, and Account Management.

In the New Business workshop, we identified the biggest and best youth-facing brands, the brands which we felt should be making waves on-campus. We then developed our own original ideas for a student-focused marketing campaign for one of those brands, formulating our campaign proposal into a pitch presentation. It felt very much like something out of an episode of Dragon’s Den.

The Digital Marketing workshop saw us learning to create great content across social channels. A particular emphasis was placed on Tiktok’s phenomenal growth, and one of our primary tasks involved conducting research to establish students’ perceptions of Tiktok and what they engage most with.

Finally, we got into the nitty gritty of campaign planning in the Account Management workshop. I definitely wasn’t the most organised of students whilst at university, so learning about how to create a structured timings and budget plan was super beneficial for me in particular!

What were your favourite moments of the Ambassador Academy?

I have so many!

To start with, a few weeks into the Academy I got to do a pitch to the Mob Kitchen founder and senior team, which was such a ‘pinch me’ moment. I’d admired their online strategy and content for so long; getting to actually speak to their internal team about their upcoming plans for Mob and helping to shape those ideas was invaluable experience.

Then coming down to the Raptor office in Shoreditch for the Academy Graduation ceremony was an incredible way to celebrate completing the programme. We got to meet other students from all around the country, receive an accreditation for our work to put on our CVs, and toast to our hard work with champagne and music! I would definitely encourage any student with an interest in marketing and events, or even just someone looking to gain experience in the world of work, to sign up to the Academy. I’m definitely thankful that I did!

The Raptor Academy programme is relaunching this March bigger and better than ever, with more workshop opportunities, more members and more internships available.
