City in the Spotlight: Nottingham
If you're heading to Nottingham in September for University, check out our comprehensive guide of how to live your best student life in Nottingham...
It’s hard to pick a night out in Notts but Talbot Street seems to have it all. Rock city, in my opinion, won’t ever be matched with its ability to provide an all-round fantastic night with a quality mix of music. The burger van outside is also an absolute essential before an Uber home! Stealth, Box and Rescue Rooms, all on the same road, cater for more alternative music tastes but all deliver a fab night.
Notts bars are second to none; although 2-4-1 revs cocktails are a classic, there are so many bars you may not hear of if you don’t delve a little further. Coco tang is a Vietnamese cocktail bar that offers 2-4-1 for students and even supplies a ‘Regina George’ Mean Girls themed cocktail complete with a fondant burn book! (if you know, then you know…) Pepper rocks near Lace Market is another great bar to go and get cosy in. It’s filled with vintage furniture and the sounds of live music or an open mic. Lastly, if you haven’t found the Hockley Arts Club secret bar then your Instagram is undeniably lacking pictures under the blossom in the beautiful garden on the top floor – definitely worth a visit!
Where food is concerned I personally love Chinese orking as a Deliveroo ambassador has allowed me to try lots of different foods from our local area including Chinese and Thai takeaways in addition to sampling lots of food with fellow students on campus. However, if you’re looking to venture out for a bit of grub there are places you absolutely can’t miss. In Beeston, Greenhood serve the best coffee in Notts and the staff are able to talk to you all day long about different beans and grinds if that’s what floats your boat, and if not then you can order a tasty vanilla latte and halloumi bagel which is the best lunch I’ve had in Notts and comes with the highest recommendation! Also if you haven’t been to Bunk, stop reading this and go. It’s honestly the best place I’ve found since coming to uni – huge baskets of chicken wings, curly fries and cocktails are all half price before 10pm! It’s complete with an arty setting, featuring plants and fairy lights to create a fun and funky atmosphere!
If you haven’t found somewhere you love to go out for food or a night out in Notts then you simply haven’t looked hard enough. Being a student in the city you’ll fall in love with the uni as well as the diverse range of activities and hotspots the city has to offer.
