Meet the Team: David Burgman, Managing Director

How long have you worked at Raptor?:
Since day 1, Sept 2015 Jonny and I jumped in my girlfriend (now wife’s) mum’s mini with some money off vouchers for Uber and drove all over the UK signing up students to the new app. Our office was student houses and a pub in Shoreditch when in London.
What is your career story so far?:
I studied management and marketing at the University of Manchester and after graduation joined the retail management scheme for Matalan starting as menswear manager at one of their stores in Bradford before moving up to their head office as Merchandise Manager.
I then returned to the University of Manchester to complete a Masters of Enterprise before getting the bug for marketing and experiential in particular.
After graduating, I joined an experiential marketing agency in my home town of Leeds as an event producer working on Proctor & Gamble brands including Gillette and Head & Shoulders.
I then joined the events team at Morrisons supermarkets to deliver their internal events which led onto taking a role with Morrisons event agency based in Leeds but activating across the UK. My highlight was working on the London 2012 Olympic Games fan zone at Hyde Park for 3 weeks. An experiential wonderland!
That gave me the London bug and in 2013 made the move to London working for an experiential marketing and promotional staffing agency as New Business Manager for 2 years before deciding to take the plunge and setup Raptor in 2015.
What is your role and what are you responsible for?:
As managing director at Raptor, the buck stops with me. Ensuing we build a fantastic team of passionate and hungry marketeers and instilling the Raptor DNA into all parts of the business to drive success.
On a day to day, everything from prospecting, pitching and winning new clients through to ensuring campaigns are delivered to a high standard.
What is the best part of your role?:
My favourite part of the role is pitching and winning new clients, and then seeing the campaign come to life on the ground.
What is your dream brand to work with?:
I’m a massive Leeds United fan, and I was lucky enough to work with Leeds United as part of a Deliveroo partnership and was invited onto the pitch as part of the activation. Was like a kid in a sweet shop!
What is your wildest moment from your days as a student?:
Again, a Leeds United story but my friends and I were invited to Sky HQ in London as fans of the week for soccer AM. For me, the wildest thing that could ever happen!
What was your go-to student meal?:
Without a doubt the Domino’s £2 special. We had a Domino’s at the top of our road so took it in turns to grab for the rest of the house.
What series are you currently binging on?:
I’m currently watching 24 hours in police custody, anything British and real life is right up my street.
What is your secret talent?:
Hmmmm, I can play the piano pretty badly and have a few favourite tunes to play after a few drinks?!
